Molde The city of Jazz and roses.
In the middle between the tourist attractions of Geiranger, Trollstigen and the Atlantic Road is the fjord town of Molde. This is a pleasant small town with an incredible view to 222 mountain peaks!
Molde is referred to as "The City of Roses" with all its thriving and lush Rose Gardens. This is the city of events with the “Molde Jazz" as the main annual event. It’s known for world-famous artists and bustling crowds. The "Bjørnsonfestivalen" presents every year internationally renowned authors while "Teateret vårt” has performances throughout the year. The Mainstreet (Storgata) is the city's shopping street, and from here it is only a short stroll to the city's shopping center, Roseby. From the market you may take the ferry to the idyllic “Hjertøya” (Heart Island) where you can visit the Fisheries Museum, hire a rowing boat, go fishing or take a swim in the sea. The Romsdal Museum is one of Norway's largest folk museums with over 40 old wooden buildings assembled in a beautiful park.
From the viewpoint Varden (407 m.), you can observe the famous Molde panorama with its 222 partially snow-covered peaks. On clear days one may even see all the way to the fishing village of Ona. This is also the starting point for several marked hiking trails into “Moldemarka” (the back country of Molde).
Molde's business community has a long tradition of manufacturing, shipbuilding, clothing, trade and tourism. Because of extensive damage during the 2nd World War II, the city consists mainly of simple, clean and functional post-war architecture. Molde has 24,000 inhabitants, is the regional capital of Møre og Romsdal.
