The Bergen Railway is the highest railway line in Northern Europe, and 100 km goes through wild mountain areas! Take the whole trip from Oslo to Bergen, or just part of the journey: along the Bergen Railway numerous possibilites for great activites and experiences await.
The Bergen Railway was finished in 1909 and improved significantly the communication between the capital and the Western part of Norway. At that time it was a huge challenge to build the railway line - much because of the rough weather. Great engineering works, snow clearing during the winter and efficient and modern equipment are necessary for the railway line to run.
The highest point on the railway line is Finse, 1222 m above sea level. From Finse or from Haugastøl you can experience the famous Rallarvegen (the Navvies' road) by bike, which ends in beautiful Flåm. You can also combine the journey on the Bergen Railway with the fantastic Flåm Railway.
