Several ferry companies carry your car to the region from the European mainland, and you find car rental companies at all airports and in most cities and towns.
NATIONAL ROUTES IN FJORD NORWAY
Remember to add tolls and ferry tickets in your travel budget. A ferry trip costs from 50-300 NOK incl passengers depending on the length / duration. The petrol in Norway is also slightly more expensive than in most other countries. Gas stations can be found in most towns in the region. Along the way, you will find several picnic areas. These are meant for lunchbreaks and short stops - not for accommodation.
Several mountain passes are closed during winter, and in winter (October to May) you may experience periodic closure or convoy during periods of bad weather. The overview can be found at www.175.no (Norwegian and English language version). Winter tires are needed in the winter, and the speed chains are strongly recommended.
Most roads in Fjord Norway are of high quality, but in some places the roads can be narrow and have a high traffic load in summer season. Remember that you must be insured to drive a car in Norway and the seat belt is to be used by all passengers. Low beam should always be on.
Speed limits in cities and towns are usually 50 or 30 km / h, and 70 or 80 km / h in places without a settlement. It is not allowed to be under the influence of alcohol while driving in Norway.
