The Fjord Route is a coastal trekking route from Kvernberget Airport, Kristiansund. The route offers hikers a great variety in the surrounding landscape. Starting from the sea, through the cultural landscape and forest terrain, and up in the untouched mountains.
This tour goes through six of the municipalities in Nordmøre and start
at the Airport terminal. It offers eleven unique, spacious and
well-equipped cabins along the 90-mile (150 km) long trail route. The
cabins are self-service standard. This means that they are equipped
with wood, gas for cooking, kitchen equipment, food and bedding. All
you need, in addition to hiking gear, is your sleeping bag or bed
sheets. Most cabins are open, while some require the DNT universal key
to enter (this is available to all members of The Norwegian Trekking
association). The development of the Fjord Route started in 1996, while
the last cottage was built in 2009. The lowest and highest of the
cabins are Imarbu, with its 5 meters above sea level, and Hardbakkhytta
with its 789 meters above sea level.
All cabins are easily accessible from the road. Most of the trips
between the cabins are well suited for families with children, and the
varied terrain of lakes, rivers and lakes are exciting and appealing to
all young and old who appreciate nature and outdoor life.
