"Do not look back" it says on a sign as you drive from the ferry to Værlandet. The islands of Bulandet is an area which offers fantastic adventures for kayakers, especially those who want to try out a little surf and large waves in safe but exotic surroundings.
The islands, located in Askvoll municipality south of Florø, has some 365 small islands. There are comparison about 200 people out here. The islands are separated by narrow channels that have tourism people to use the term "Western Norway's Venice". Not very compelling, but the channels and the unique island landscape with ball-shaped mountain ("hillock") provides a continued sense of being on another planet - out there in the ocean.
When Bulandet and Værlandet was connected by a road (named one of the most beautiful stretches in the country) one of the channels was filled, but this area is still very well suited for paddlers. Fjord Norway´s landscape is characterized by windswept islands, idyllic houses seeking shelter behind the rocks, and a rich bird life. One of the reason why kayakers keep coming back is great kayak surfing in the outer islands. Here you will find the wave play regardless of the wave direction. The ultimate day trip is to paddle from Bulandet to Alden and then climb the 481 meter high mountain on foot!
To drive from Bergen takes approximately 3.5 hours. Then take the Lavik-Oppedal ferry across the Sognefjord, before driving through Hyllestad and Fure. There is a ferry from Askvoll and Fure (Hyllestad) to Værlandet several times a day. The region express boat from Bergen stop at Askvoll and you can then catch the ferry on to Værlandet. Accommodation: The accommodation in the area is limited to rental cottages. A complete list is available from the www.fjordkysten.no
