This festival is considered to be Norway's biggest cultural event. It has about
200 events throughout the two weeks it lasts.
Bergen International Festival is the largest of its kind in the Nordic countries, and considered the most important meeting place for practical and creative artists in Northern Europe. The program includes concerts, opera, dance, theatre, literature, visual art, debates and dialogues. The festival is held in late May and early June each year. It has a important impact on the everyday life throughout the city, and hosts events both in the Grieghallen, Håkonshallen and the four homes of the Bergen composers - Siljustøl, Troldhaugen, Lysøen and Valestrandsfossen - as well as in a number of city churches, on streets and squares.
