The Norwegian Film Festival, known as The Film Festival in Haugesund is considered the most important and largest film festival in Norway.
The festival was first held in the small town of Drøbak in 1973, but
found it’s home in Haugesund from 1984. The Crown Prince Haakon Magnus
of Norway is the patron of the festival, while actor Liv Ullmann has
been appointed as honorary president. The festival is held over a week
in mid-August each year. This is also the venue for the Norwegian
equivalent to the Oscar the Norwegian movie award Amandaprisen. Several
of the largest Nordic film productions are having their premiere
showings here.
