John Fosse: Ro mitt hav - Haugesund

Anne Marit Jacobsen is one of our foremost and most beloved actors. In 2019, she was asked to publish a poetry collection featuring texts by Jon Fosse. It was Fosse himself who desired this. Texts from this book form the core of her performance project "Ro mitt hav" (Calm My Sea).

Joining Jacobsen on stage is one of our leading folk and jazz musicians, Sinikka Langeland, who has composed the music for the project. Langeland is well-established both domestically and internationally, with the kantele as her main instrument - offering possibilities for both instrumental music and as accompaniment to reading and singing. Her expression is varied with a wide range, providing Fosse's poems with a beautiful framework.

Since 1986, Fosse has released a number of poetry collections, including "Engel med vatn i augene" (Angel with water in the eyes), "Auge i vind" (Eye in the wind), and "Songar og Stein til stein" (Songs and Stone to Stone). In Fosse's poetry, there are fjords and mountains, rain and darkness, waves and the sea, dogs and angels. Past, present, and future are intertwined, and the boundary between life and death is often blurred.

When asked how to read the poems, Fosse has said: "You just read them. Either you hear the silent music, or you don't." Actress Anne Marit Jacobsen has gone through all of Jon Fosse's poems and selected the ones she likes the best. You can experience them in "Ro mitt hav" at the library this spring!

Anne Marit Jacobsen is one of the leading actors in the country. She is known from both theater, revue, television, and films and has been an actress for over 50 years. Jacobsen is also one of the foremost Fosse interpreters in the country.

Sinikka Langeland, singer, kantele player, composer, band leader, 16 solo releases, 7 on the German label ECM. She has created several commissioned works, most recently "Sauna Cathedral" for six musicians, performed at Jazz Berlin in October 2019.
