Chamber Music Festival 2026: Concert No. 7 – Late-Night Concert
The Fair Maid of the Mill
Utstein Abbey
This late-night concert presents Franz Schubert’s song cycle Die schöne Müllerin, one of the central works in the lied repertoire. The cycle follows a young miller on a journey through love, hope, and loss, and is regarded as one of Schubert’s most unified and dramatic vocal works.
Tenor Eirik Grøtvedt and pianist Christian Ihle Hadland perform the complete cycle, with voice and piano working closely together to shape a continuous narrative. The music moves from youthful brightness to a darker, more reflective conclusion, highlighting Schubert’s ability to unite text and music in a deeply integrated form.
Set within the historic surroundings of Utstein Abbey, the concert offers an intimate and focused musical experience.
