There are soon to be a million people over the age of 65 in this country. Many remain highly alert, active, and outgoing.
They are not an "elderly wave"—a tsunami threatening the welfare state. They are the "Power of Age"! Possessing expertise, experience, and a zest for life!
Through 68 personal encounters—including with Trond-Viggo Torgersen, Kristin Helle-Valle, Knut Faldbakken, Sissel Gran, Sven Henriksen, Mette Bugge, Odd Grann, Anita Østerbø, and Morten Krogvold—journalist and photographer Bjarte Ytre-Arne highlights excellent representatives of this "Power of Age."
This is showcased in the book *Gamle Gode Folk* ("Good Old Folks"), where Ytre-Arne captures images that are more *about* the people than merely *of* them. The photos are accompanied by texts describing who they are, what drives them, and what they themselves do to ensure the best possible experience of old age.
They are wonderful role models who can inspire others who are—or will soon become—elderly. At times, the book also serves as an entertaining manifesto against ageism.
