Zum Hauptinhalt

With Mirra, Benedicte Maurseth guides audiences through the wild reindeer’s annual cycle on Hardangervidda — from winter’s quiet digging in the snow, through spring calving and summer grazing, to autumn unrest and winter stillness.

Rooted in the repetitive patterns of folk music, the sound world is at once open and exploratory. The reindeer’s own grunts and clicking sounds are woven into the music, giving the concert a strong sense of landscape and nature.

Mirra is a focused, contemplative work about nature, time, and interaction — and about an animal that has been part of the mountain landscape for thousands of years, yet is now under threat.

The album Mirra follows Hárr (2022), which won the Nordic Music Prize and received wide international attention. In 2025, Mirra was named Album of the Year in Vestland by Bergens Tidende.

Performers:
Benedicte Maurseth – hardanger fiddle
