Welcome to an intimate concert with Stranda's own Dylan cover trio, Tom Raab, Sigurd Drege and Geir Olav Eide Drege.
On Valentine's Day itself, the performance will be about Dylan's relationship with the women who have inspired him in hundreds of songs, both for better and for worse.
Tom:
As a four-year-old, I had to listen to Dylan through the wall of my older siblings. Bob was the hottest and most passionate thing imaginable at the time, and I got the "Dylan movement" with my mother's milk. I was completely brainwashed by his music throughout my childhood. For many years, it was the "sound" of Dylan that triggered me, but as my English skills improved, the lyrics of the great master came along as well. The combination is unbeatable.
After playing Bob's songs with the band "Hurricane" for ten years, it is an enormous joy, but also a challenge, to play the songs "unplugged" together with Sigurd and Geir Olav - and also at Fabrikken, where we have previously had great success with "Hurricane".
Sigurd:
My interest in music started early, and I remember well when The Beatles came out with "Love me do". I think it changed my life, and I have been very interested in music ever since. I started in a band when I was 15, and have continued on the side - mostly as a hobby, but also for a few years full-time in the 70s and 80s. My first Dylan album was "Planet waves" which came out in 1974. The Band played with Bob on this album and I was very impressed. Since then, Dylan was probably not the first choice, but when both Tom Raab and Øystein Braaten, both big Dylan fans, came to the village, I joined various groups where we mostly played Dylan songs. I had to take this seriously, and started to immerse myself in the lyrics of Meister Bob. To put it this way: “I shall be released”.
Geir Olav is the son of Sigurd Drege, and has grown up in a home where music has been paramount. He was exposed to his father’s music with his mother’s milk, and at the age of twelve he learned his first blues riff from Ole Paus himself, who was visiting the home. Geir Olav gradually joined as guitarist in the Dylan tribute band “Hurricane”, before he has now switched to bass guitar in “Dylan’s Women”.
Bob Dylan, the Nobel Prize winner in literature, is a difficult musician for many. His work is not always the kind of thing you can hum after the first listen, and the lyrics should be both listened to carefully, and preferably analyzed to understand. His voice, and the way he emphasizes and phrasing the lyrics, can rightly be described as an emotional volcano. We have delved into some of these songs, and are happy to share the volcanic eruption with you. Sharing some of the songs of one of the most important musicians and writers of all time. The audience will be given a lyric booklet, and - just so you are aware of it:
The concert will take place in the Bar Bakke section and will last 2 x 45 minutes, with a good break between sets.
Doors open at 7:00 PM, the performance starts approx. 8:00 PM.
