Doors open at 19:00. At 20:00, Bríd Harper and Magnus Wiik take the stage, offering Irish folk music in a fiddle/guitar format with a focus on tight and dynamic interplay.
Bríd Harper (fiddle) is from Castlefinn in Donegal and is described as “one of the best fiddlers in traditional music” by The Irish Echo. She won the prestigious senior category at the All-Ireland competition as early as 1988, and is a fiddler spoken of with genuine reverence by other musicians. Bríd performs with artists such as Dermot Byrne and John Doyle, and works with some of the biggest names in Irish folk music. Her solo albums from the past decade have become modern classics in the genre.
Magnus Wiik (guitar) is well known from bluegrass bands such as Open String Department and Julie & The New Favorites, and has been praised as “one of the most innovative and brilliant interpreters of music of our time” (Mono Magasin). He has been described as “a Norwegian version of Béla Fleck, Ricky Skaggs and Tony Rice in one and the same person” (Leiv Solberg, Folkemusikktimen). In the early 2010s, however, Irish folk music was Magnus’ main focus. He toured all over Europe with Irish folk, performing at festivals such as Celtic Connections, London City Festival and Tønder, sharing stages with Altan and working with musicians such as Gerry O’Connor, Ronan Ryan and Tony O’Connell.
