No rule without exceptions. This year, the Jazz Circle has tested a jazz café on Sundays – and now we are testing a jazz café in the foyer of Parken Cultural Center.

This afternoon, Vegard Holum has put together a tribute to Chet Baker, together with a cream of the crop of musicians from the region.

Vegard Holum is a musician and composer from Fosnavåg, with education from the University of Agder and the Norwegian Academy of Music. He grew up in a musical family, surrounded by choirs and singing, and was early captivated by melody – how he can all by himself create excitement, and suddenly become both powerful and soft in the face of other musical elements.

As an aspiring jazz trumpeter, Holum early turned his attention to the very master of melodic trumpet playing: Chesney Henry Baker Jr., better known as Chet Baker. His effortless and horizontal melodic delivery over frequent chord changes was deeply fascinating. There was no need to impress or shine. He was just the music.

Now Holum wants to dive into Baker's nostalgic universe. He has selected his favorites from the catalog and takes on the role of both trumpeter and vocalist. To interpret the music, he has brought along very competent musicians and invites you to a concert in the style of cool jazz.
