Do you find car repairs a relaxing way to de-stress? Does it make you happy when you master a knitting pattern? Yes, working with your hands – whether it’s weaving, carpentry or cooking – can have that effect. It gives you a sense of achievement, improves your problem-solving skills and actually boosts your brain power too.

It can also lead to better health, both mentally and physically. To achieve this, you should ideally have ten craft projects on the go at the same time, according to Anne Kirketerp. She is the Danish-Norwegian craft artist, craft teacher, lecturer, author and psychologist who has developed the discipline of Craft Psychology. The discipline combines craft with psychology – particularly with the branch of psychology that studies the human drive to create something tangible.

In this way, she hopes that Craft Psychology can open up new ways of promoting well-being – as well as counteracting mental distress – whether at home, in education or in institutions.

Come and hear Kirketerp speak about the power of Craft Psychology. Following the talk, there will be a launch of the Norwegian translation of her book ‘Craft Psychology’.

Please note that this event will be mainly held in Norwegian.
