Morten Abel celebrates an iconic album – Join a time machine for one night!
Next year marks 25 years since Morten Abel’s iconic album I'll Come Back and Love You Forever struck the Norwegian music scene like a meteor. Time to celebrate!
2001 was a great year for pop music. The new millennium was young and promising. The album format was at its peak, even though Napster disrupted the record industry. One could invest in a CD with an exciting cover, learning to love it after countless listens, or enjoy it with huge headphones in the local record shop. Nothing could stop Morten Abel’s extraordinary success at the time. His third solo album perfectly captured the spirit of the era, with an eclectic mix of unforgettable melodies, big choruses, innovative production, and a silky smooth voice with playful diction. It was all infused with a unique character that made him one of the country’s most remarkable pop stars.
The album received excellent reviews, stayed on VG-lista for 20 weeks, and Abel was awarded the Spellemann Prize as Pop Soloist of the Year and, notably, Song of the Year for the title track – which still sounds just as refreshing, unique, and beautiful today.
The album topped the Norwegian charts for seven weeks and includes songs such as “You Are Beautiful,” “Welcome Home,” “Music Is Communicating,” and “Stay Crazy” – songs that have accompanied a generation of Norwegians through life and love.
25 years later, Morten Abel invites us on a one-night time machine journey. The evening takes us back to 2001 with a full revisit of I'll Come Back and Love You Forever. It will be a night filled with musical nostalgia, but also a testament to how timeless these songs are – and what a unique songwriter and artist Morten Abel is. As if that weren’t enough, the night will also feature a greatest hits parade from his entire solo career – from his debut album to the newest releases – all the highlights you have sung along to, danced to, and carried with you through life.
Over a career spanning several decades, from Mods via The September When to his solo work, Abel has demonstrated a rare ability to combine the experimental with the popular. Morten Abel has always balanced the experimental with the accessible, delivering a uniqueness few can match. Now, all of this comes together in one evening celebrating both a masterpiece and one of the most distinctive voices in Norwegian pop history.
The 2026 concert will therefore not only celebrate an iconic album but also an eccentric artist who has left a lasting mark on Norwegian popular music history.
