Beauty and the Beast is a choreographic duo, a fictional band, a performance, a documentary, and a lifelong collaboration between Amanda Apetrea and Halla Ólafsdóttir.
The Selkie Poetry Reading combines poems and songs from the legendary duo (not the Disney version!), in a stripped-back, intimate setting. The performance plays with contrasts between rawness and beauty, desire and disgust, body and seal-soul. They move in and out of a mythical landscape, shifting form between seal and woman. They bring their instruments and a little make-up. All you need to do is lean back, listen, and perhaps float weightlessly to the sound of their muted, dark and epic voices.
