Slinningsbålet 2026

The Slinningsbålet 2026 is one of the biggest and most spectacular events of the year in Ålesund. The tradition goes back many decades and has developed into one of Norway's most famous Midsummer events. Every year, young people from Hesse gather to build the enormous bonfire on Slinningsodden, a task that requires courage, cooperation and a great deal of dedication.

Construction traditionally starts on May 1st and continues throughout the spring. The bonfire is built by hand from pallets donated by local businesses. What makes the Slinningsbålet special is that the work is carried out without cranes or advanced aids. Generations of young people have passed on the knowledge and techniques that make it possible to erect the impressive structure year after year.

In 2026, the Slinningsbålet will be lit on Saturday, June 20th at 9:00 PM. As the flames spread up the tall wooden structure, the fjord is filled with boats and thousands of people watch excitedly from land and sea. When the bonfire finally collapses amid cheers and boat horns, a memory is created that many will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
