Terje Isungset

Since 1999, renowned drummer and composer Terje Isungset has been performing ice music, and has been described by CNN as “The world's first and only ice musician”. Since then, he has toured the world, both nationally and internationally, in countries such as China, the USA, England, Japan and Germany. His concerts, which are played exclusively on ice, envelop the audience in the beautiful sound of ice, and the instruments create a powerful visual and auditory impression.

In 2022, he developed his brand new concept, Ice Quartet, as an extension of his innovative ice activities. Here, the ensemble has been expanded to include ice harp, ice double bass, ice percussion, ice drums, isophone, ice horn, as well as a not-so-frozen vocalist. The concerts have been praised with words such as “eerilly beautiful”, “haunting”, “otherworldly yet so comforting” and “a visual and musical feast”.

In the fall of 2025, the Ice Quartet played several sold-out concerts in Europe, including in Belgium, England and Luxembourg, and on January 16, 2026, they played at the opening event for the European Capital of Culture in Oulu, Finland.
