On Tuesday 22 September, Tor Inge Vormedal will take the audience on a journey through the 1960s, a decade that left a clear mark on the development of Haugalandet and the surrounding region.
Major changes in the region
The 1960s were characterised by major development projects and social changes. The construction of the all-year road over Haukelifjell, municipal mergers and the establishment of Alnor/Hydro were among the events that helped shape the region’s future development.
Schools and society in development
During the decade, the seven-year primary school was replaced by a nine-year compulsory education system. These changes reflected a growing society, with an increased focus on education and new opportunities for future generations.
New cultural expressions and leisure activities
The 1960s were also a time when popular music gained greater prominence. Pop groups emerged across the region, and cultural life developed in step with new trends and influences. At the same time, summer events and competitions drew crowds to social gathering places in the town centres.
