To justismord: Snikkarmeister Carl Andreas Hoel- Trollstigens far

Author Svein Linge will recount the dramatic life of Carl A. Hoel (1865–1954), a native of Valldal. Hoel traveled across Europe, mastering furniture making to such a high standard that he received commissions from royalty. Following a fire in Bergen in 1903, he was convicted of arson and imprisoned. His family fought for years to clear his name. King Haakon VII and prominent politicians became involved, and in 1918, the Storting (Parliament) awarded him compensation equivalent to over 20 million kroner in today’s money.


He returned to his home village of Valldal, where he became a key driving force behind the construction of Trollstigen, though he also made many enemies in the community. He built himself a grand house named "New Home." When New Home caught fire, Hoel was once again accused of arson and convicted. It was not until the age of 84 that he was finally acquitted.


Drawing on previously unknown sources, the author paints a fascinating portrait of an extraordinary man: the furniture maker, entrepreneur, community builder, storyteller, rebel, author, and hymn writer Carl A. Hoel.
