Zum Hauptinhalt

Tyra Kleen lived an independent and adventurous life at a time when women did not have the right to vote. Her years of travels to Egypt, India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia, among others, were motivated by curiosity and an interest in religious and spiritual issues. She was a member of the Theosophical Society in Rome, participated in seances in Paris and initiated exorcisms in her home on Lidingö.

Tyra Kleen sometimes traveled completely alone – always in search of a deeper understanding of art, culture and religion. In her works, she combined the mysterious, the morbid and the beautiful, and was clearly in dialogue with contemporary art nouveau and symbolism.

Tyra Kleen. Ständigt sökande is produced by Norrköpings konstmuseum and curated by curator Helena Scragg in dialogue with Karin Ström Lehander, senior lecturer at LiU and doctoral fellow in art history at Åbo Akademi. The exhibition was shown at Norrköping's Konstmuseum in February-September 2024, and has since been shown at Uppsala Konstmuseum, Bohuslän's Museum and Halland's Konstmuseum.
