In the summer of 2024, the showroom at Havila Hotel Geiranger will be filled with some of the best in Norwegian art and watchmaking. We are proud to be able to present the artist Cathrine Knudsen and the watchmaker Øyvind VON DOREN Asbjørnsen.
The exhibition with visual artist CATHRINE KNUDSEN at HAVILA HOTEL GEIRANGER, shows painting, botanical prints, graphics and ceramics. Knudsen has decorated the coastal liner Havila Castor, and you can see 36 of her works in the common area on the ship. Now she comes to Havila Hotel Geiranger with her art and we were lucky enough to show her beautiful art at Havila Hotel Geiranger all summer.
Cathrine Knudsen has worked as an artist for over 20 years and has gained a solid position in the Norwegian art market. Nature is the main inspiration in her art. . "In nature, the artist feels a freedom of his own. This freedom gives greater room for thought and a completely own inspiration", she says. The picture reflects the silence in nature and slow narratives. Something is worn down and something is built up, at the same time, and this forms nature's own stories. The continuous process of decay and renewal in nature, with nature's poetry, fragility and silence, is interpreted in the artwork.
In this exhibition, Cathrine Knudsen shows new oil paintings in which nature has left its mark on the canvas - also with well-known former artists from Geiranger. In addition, there are mountain silhouettes after several trips to Svalbard. There are also natural forms such as layers upon layers of large maple leaves, fallen leaves, feathers, flowers, clovers and other recognizable elements from nature that are rendered in light, natural tones. Oil paint in several thick layers creates a strong depth effect and gives different structures in the surface. Gold leaf has been applied to some of the works, as an effect of light and purity and delicate simplicity and calm runs through all the images.
In addition to paintings, Knudsen also exhibits ceramics and a large selection of graphics, including woodcuts, lithographs, etchings, monotypes and botanical prints.
Cathrine Knudsen has had a number of solo exhibitions, among others at Soli Brug, Bærum art association, Gallery Fineart, Gallery Soon and Hamar Sagbladfabrikk. Her work has been purchased by various large institutions and private collectors.
Knudsen will be present during the opening weekend.
