Gjuratindryggen (1580 M.ü.S.)

Warning: This tour is suitable either for experts or as a guided tour. Never do this trip alone, if you are unexperienced, or in companion with other unexperienced. The entire area is characterized by challenging and steep terrain, with avalanche danger in prone areas. Gjuratind is a characteristic peak between Isfjorden and Eikesdalen. From north the top looks like a vertical rock wall, from the North east a sharp spear, and from the east like an enormous tower. Recommended time for ski touring is late spring time, starting on foot in green surroundings in the bottom of the Grøvdalen valley. You can start the trip from both Grøvdalen in Isfjorden and from Eikesdalsvatnet. Grøvdalen is the most common place to start, as described here. Ascent begins with a well marked DNT trail at Rabben in Grøvdalen. You drive up a mountain road east of Isfjorden signed Grøvdalen. If the road is closed during winter time after heavy snow falls you must start at Morstøl, two kilometres before Rabben. In late spring you have to put the skis on your backpack and walk about 300 - 400 height metres before facing the snow. Continue heading upwards some kilometres towards Hoemskardet with skies on. From Hoemskaret cross over the glacier called Hoembreen to the south ridge of Juratind. The view from the south ridge is magnificant. Eikesdalsvatnet sparkling 1500 meters below you, in the North east we could get a glimpse of Tustna and the west coast islands, and on a clear day you can even spot the windmills at Smøla. In South the majestic Tafjordfjella rises in a row, in the west white Romsdal Mountain peaks with Trollveggen as the great eyecatcher. Up north Gjuratinden rises in front of you like a giant beast. The glacier is usually safe. From the glacier follow a snow line up to the south ridge before the top of Gjuratind. Here you have to take off your skis. At this point, right under the summit, the skiing trip ends, but some wants to continue the last 150 meters to the top. But even without reaching the top this is a great ski trip with a hilarious descent. To reach the top of Mt Gjuratind (1712 masl) there are two alternative routes depending on snow conditions. If the snow is safe it is recommended to traverse over to the left and cross over to the west ridge. Now you have come to a steep part with easy climbing the last stretch up to the apex. Remember to bring ice axe, climbing rope and safety equipment. This is essential equipment if you plan to reach the top! For dessert you can look forward to a long and nice descent in magnificent surroundings, nearly 1500 m vertical drop. Follow the same way back. Avalanche risk in Romsdalen! The weather circumstances and snow conditions can soon change. Always pay attention to the risk of snow avalanches when planning for your ski touring experience. Kaldtinden (1115 M.ü.S.)

Very nice alpine ski tour through a great terrain with a fantastic view towards Romsdalsfjorden. Gentle ascent along the prominent east ridge most of the way to the top. Classified as an easy tour. Powder or soft spring snow are ideal conditions for skiing at Kaldtinden. You can also make a detour to the neighbour top; Grøntind. Park the car at Moen farm (private parking), on the north-west side of the river. Follow the tractor road up the hill side, keeping to the left in the beginning. The tractor road goes almost up to the old mountain farm.  From the farm houses follow the ridge to the summit of Kaldtind. Just before the top there is a flank, from here the easiest way to the top is to cross westward over to the left and follow the south ridge up to the top. Back down you can follow the same route, or if the snow conditions are good, ski straight down from the top. Avalanche risk in Romsdalen! Loftskarstind (1191 M.ü.S.)

Great ski touring classic in the heart of the Romsdalen Alps. Nice summit with a good mellow ascent towards the final 400 vertical metres. A great stone cabin on top of the mountains where you can seek shelter from the wind. You can start from Øvre Kavli or the shooting range in Isfjorden. From the big parking lot at the shooting range follow the tractor road that starts from the north-east corner of the car park. Instead of crossing the first bridge over the river Skardelva you take the suspension bridge close by. Continue up the wooded ridge on the east side of the river, up to Vårseterhjellen. At this point the two paths meet. Startng from Øvre Kavli follow the tractor road until it crosses the river Heiaelva. Continue around the bend (50 m) and go straight ahead. Look for the sign towards Måsvassbu. It is indicated by signs and red marks. Cross over the marsh and up a short distance to Vårseterhjellen. Follow this route to Loftskardsetra, and continue north towards Loftskardet. After passing Fantesteinen (a rock) you eventually reach a flat at around 560 metres of altitude. Be aware that you are now entering a runout zone for avalanches from both sides of the valley. To avoid avalanches from Skarven it is common to cross the river and follow a height that runs along the west bank. When you approach the runout zone below Loftskardtind it is best to ski somewhat to the east again. When the ascent of Loftskardet begins you aim for the saddle that stretches between Loftskardtind and summit, 1087 metres. This is avalanche prone terrain, and it is important to consider closely which route to follow. Just before the top there is a nice stone cottage, from where you simply follow the ridge to the summit of Loftskardtinden. You can also combine this trip with a travers to or from Galtåtind. If the snow conditions are good, you have many different runs to choose between, but it follows the same route as the ascent, more or less. Please note that the flanks by Loftskardtinden are avanalche prone. Assess the snow conditions closely before descending. You can also descend on the other side of the mountain, down Ljøsådalen to Skorgedalen. For sure you will expereince a thrilling and fun descent down the mountain. Avalanche risk in Romsdalen! The weather circumstances and snow conditions can soon change. Skjervan (1545 M.ü.S.)

Long and heavy ski tour, from the fjord to the summit of Mt Skjervan, rewarded with more than 1500 vertical meters of hillarious descent. Skjervan is the name of the distinct alpine Ridge that can be seen on the west side of Innfjorden. The summit can be ascended from the east (Innfjorden) as well as the west side (Måndalen). The east side is the easier way up, it only gets steep on the final part to the summit. As a reward, the scenery on top is fantastic. If you ascen from the west, the views are perhaps not as spectacular. on the other hand, when conditions are good you are compensated With a fabulous run down a long, steady slope. [caption id="attachment_5799" align="alignnone" width="650"] Skjervan in Innfjorden[/caption] This route is described from Innfjorden. You can find ohter route options described in the book Ski Touring in Romsdalen. Drive to Innfjorden, and you can park the car at Grande Trevare, or you can try to get a bit further up. Turn the first road to the left after crossing Innfjorden river. After 500 metres when the road makes a bend Down to the river you can see a toll road to the right. Here you can park the car, depending on the snow conditions there might be a possibility to drive further up the toll road. Remember to pay the toll fee. From here begins the ascent through the woods until you get on the track that leads to the the old farm houses, around 500 meters of altitude. Continue further above the treeline. Gradually the landscape opens up more and with views towards Skjervan right in front, and a majestic fjord landscape when you turn around. Follow the easiest way in the terrain, and aim for the north side of the peak at 1270 m elevation. You keep the direction towards the conspicuous rock hammer, which leads up to the north ridge of the mountain. From here the terrain raises smoothly and keep follow the ridge under the apex of the west side, before taking the final steep climb up to the summit at 1545 m. Enjoy the wonderful views from the airy top, facing Molde in northwest and several well-known peaks around us in the south and east. Down again we have two alternative descents. There are more than 1,500 meters skiing from summit to fjords. If the conditions are good, you get the finest descent from east flank of the mountain. However this is more avalanche prone. The steep flanks can accumulate a lot of snow. Especially if the wind has been blowing from the west. If you are uncertain about the conditions you should choose the regular route. It's the same way down as up. It is difficult to ski from the higher parts of the summit. It is very steep.  Avalanche risk in Romsdalen! The weather circumstances and snow conditions can soon change. Skitouren auf Tarløysa (1086 m.ü.M.)

This is a short ski tour where you get a fantastic view without putting too much effort in climbing height meters. A little heavy start through the shrubs, but the landscape soon opens up, and you can enjoy the magnificent view over the Romsdal Fjord, Molde town, wild mountain peaks and even to the coast line of the North Sea. Follow the left edge (West direction), up to the edge where you have excellent view down to Herjevatnet Lake.
