In the summer of 2024, the showroom at Havila Hotel Geiranger will be filled with some of the best in Norwegian art and watchmaking. We are proud to be able to present the artist Cathrine Knudsen and the watchmaker Øyvind VON DOREN Asbjørnsen.
You can see their work in our showroom from 25 May to 22 September. This is both an exciting exhibition and a chance to secure one of the unique objects and art they have brought to us in Geiranger. The exhibition is free and is open every day throughout the period.
History
In 2016, founder Øyvind Von Doren Asbjørnsen realized a long-standing dream, to create his own watch brand. Øyvind grew up in the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund with distinctive towers, spires and beautiful decorations. His fascination and passion for watches started when he inherited a Certina DS Automatic from his great-grandfather on his 12th birthday. Since then, he has both collected wristwatches and dreamed of creating them.
Before the clock dream was fulfilled, he worked as a film producer, director, publisher and author. He has made several documentaries, TV series, short films and feature films. One of his perhaps best-known works is the documentary Prince of Chess from 2005 - about the 13-year-old chess prodigy Magnus Carlsen, as well as MAGNUS from 2016.
After a long career as a director and film producer, he followed his dream and bet everything on Von Doren. Today, Von Doren makes timeless wristwatches of high quality, inspired by Norwegian nature and history. All watches are designed by Von Doren in Norway with Swiss movements.
When Von Doren creates watch collections, he draws inspiration from his hometown of Ålesund with its elegant lines and distinctive Art Nouveau style, with the dramatic nature around the city and magnificent fjords, mountains and waterfalls. As a former film director and producer, he also draws inspiration from film classics of the 50s and 60s.
