Årøy Farm – more than just a place to stay – it’s an experience filled with history, flavor, and presence.
Årøy is a place where history lives on through encounters with the people who come here. For over three hundred years, the farm has been owned by the Munthe family, and today it is Knut and Nina who care for both the farm and the guests who visit.
Here, kings, artists, and fishermen have come for the past 230 years to find inspiration, strength, and peace. The river that flows through the landscape has drawn everyone from the Viking king Olav the Holy to English lords and European barons – and today’s travelers as well, who seek closeness to nature, history, and authentic experiences.
A day at Årøy begins with a quiet breakfast, followed by a walk along the old King’s Road to a spectacular viewpoint, a swim in the river after the sauna, and an evening meal in the studio surrounded by art and history. Between these experiences, there is space for something often missing in everyday life: time to do nothing – and yet experience everything.
Local Activities:
• River and Farm Walk – around the river and through the hatchery. A story about the wild salmon’s life cycle and our exciting fishing history.
