One day mum doesn't come home. It's an ordinary Tuesday and the six siblings Ronja, Eva, Anna, Trine, Olav and Torstein can't get hold of her. Weeks and months go by and mum is still missing. In the end, the children have to try to create a new everyday life without a mum.
In the middle of this process, mum suddenly appears.
She doesn't have a good explanation for where she's been or why she's been away. It's clear that mum is unable to be the caregiver the children need. Everyday life continues in its limping way, with mum trying to make up for letting her children down.
But just when some kind of normality has returned to the family, mum disappears again. Then mum suddenly appears. Before she disappears again. And reappears. And disappears.
The Homecomings is a play about how six children are suddenly forced to become adults. How do they relate to a mother who eventually needs more care than she can give? And what does it do to the children when everything that provides security can disappear in an instant?
Together with six brave actors from the youth theatre, director Tomas Alf Larsen welcomes you into the darkness of Kjellerteatret. Hjemkomstene is an absurd and humorous story about unity, care, hope and betrayal. And about what happens when children become adults without actually being adults.
Hjemkomstene is written by playwright and composer Fredrik Brattberg. He is one of our most critically acclaimed playwrights abroad. His literary works have been translated into 20 languages and performed on stages all over the world. This is the first time Rogaland Theatre is staging a play by Brattberg.
