Jølster Trout Festival is the major fishing competition and folk festival held from 11–13 June in Jølster, by the beautiful Jølstravatnet lake. This vast area – known as one of Northern Europe’s best trout lakes – sees between 12 and 18 tonnes of Jølster trout caught every year, both during the competition and through local fishing.
The festival is open to everyone – from dedicated anglers to families and beginners – and attracts around 2,000 fishermen from across Norway. You can compete to catch a trout closest to the ideal weight, take part in prize draws, and enjoy the lively atmosphere along the shores of the idyllic Jølstravatnet.
Jølstravatnet and the surrounding area are not only a fishing paradise – they are also framed by high mountains and stunning scenery, making the area perfect for cycling, kayaking, mountain hikes and other outdoor activities before or after the festival.
