Make Shit Shine!

This autumn, Robin Hood is a girl, the Sheriff of Nottingham is still a nasty fool, and adults are, as always, cowardly. We dive into the sharp situations.

The myth of Robin Hood is a story about redistributing resources. That’s why, together with our proactive partner OBOS, we’ve launched an exciting upcycling project! Engagement is one of their core values, with a focus on good childhood environments, climate, and sustainability. And that’s great, because now we need engagement, focus, and action!

The world is drowning in clothes no one uses. This environmental problem is something we can actually tackle—and have fun doing it. If you’re between 13 and 19, you can join OBOS, Rogaland Teater, and Røverkjøp for a course where we make old clothes and textiles shine. That’s how we save the world. A little.

In this two-hour course, you’ll learn simple repairs, how to transform a boring garment into something new, fun, and unique, or how to create a completely new piece from unwanted materials. You’ll learn to use a sewing machine and gain basic knowledge about fabrics—what works best and how to treat them.

Bring an item you want to give new life—whether it’s your own hoodie, your dad’s worn-out wool sweater, or something in your wardrobe you like but don’t wear because it’s damaged or doesn’t fit. We repair and make it stand out! You can also bring duvet covers, old curtains, or tablecloths to create something entirely new. The course provides patterns, inspiration, advice, tips, and access to used textiles from Røde Kors’ second-hand store Røverkjøp. When it comes to clothes, the only way to truly practice sustainability is not to buy new.

Suggestions for materials: Old denim jeans, jackets, shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, T-shirts, dresses, skirts, scarves, shawls, leather clothes, blankets, curtains, bedding, and tablecloths. Fabric scraps are fine too, but do not buy anything new for this course—use what’s already out there.

The course is led by Line Noer Borrevik, with assistants from Røde Kors. Thanks to OBOS, participation is completely free.

All courses take place at Røde Kors’ new second-hand store, Røverkjøp, in Hillevåg. Click here for a map!

NB: Only eight participants per course! Remember to book your ticket and bring it with you!
