Espionage is a word with many meanings. That's why another word is often used, namely reconnaissance. But what does it mean, scouting or investigating or the like, because the task was to gather and find information about the opponent. As part of this strategy, they received the RF-84F Thunderflash photo reconnaissance aircraft at Sola in 1956. It represented the most advanced technology of the time. It was here at Sola that the 717 squadron was established, and it became an important part of NATO. At tonight's meeting, Sola Historielag will talk about the 717 squadron, but not least about the more general reconnaissance activities in Norway, because we were part of a much bigger picture.
