The lighthouse was built as a privat lighthouse in 1880, but taken over by the government in 1882. It was then upgraded to house a lighthouse watchman and his family. Before this it was only manned three months in the winter, when at it's darkest.

In 1958 the lighthouse was elecritified by the local electrical network, before it was automatized in 1973. The lighthouse was discontinued in 1988 and in 1989 it was sold to a private owner. Be aware that this is a private owned property when you walk here.
