Oslo String Quartet's reputation as one of the most versatile string quartets has since its inception in 1991 been united with a high artistic standard and integrity. The ensemble's concerts and CD releases have received overwhelming reception from audiences and critics (including the Critics' Prize 1999 and the Spellemann Prize 2013) and the special affinity for Beethoven has resulted in groundbreaking performances by all his quartets, in Oslo both in the 90s, during the quartet's festival Beethovenkoden in 2006 and most recently in the anniversary season 2016/17.

Central classical and contemporary composers are programmed against music in all sorts of other genres, and unique versions of, for example, Peer Gynt and Tosca completely shatter all expectations of what a string quartet can and cannot do.
