The Quaker House was bought by the Society of Friends in 1867 and rebuilt to be used for community centre. The Quakers had several community centres around the country during in the last century, but the Quaker House on Stakland is the only one that has been preserved in its original condition and in its original place. The Quaker House is therefore an unique cultural monument.

Quakers are a Protestant denomination, founded in 1652 in England by George Fox. They often call themselves the Society of Friends. There were regular Quaker meetings in Tysvær until the 1920s. There are still Quakers in Tysvær, and it happens that a Quaker devotional meeting is held in the old Quaker House.
