About

About us

Welcome to Byrkjedalstunet!

It is not easy to describe Byrkjedalstunet, you have to experience it. Byrkjedalstunet is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Rogaland.

Byrkjedalstunet started up as a dairy (1920-1973), where the famous Byrkjedals-cheese was produced. In the past 30 years, it has been expanded into so much more, with a hotel village that you will not find anywhere else. For many years now, we have been one of the most visited tourist attractions in Rogaland.

We are located amidst an enchantingly beautiful mountain world, exactly between Preikestolen and Kjerag, only an hour's drive Southeast of Stavanger.

Our candle factory and gift shop is one of the largest stores of its kind in Norway. In 1988 we started here with the production of candles, poured manufactured in old manner. Today, our shop is 1,100 m² big, and we offer candles of good quality, in all shapes and colors. In addition, we sell Norwegian handwork, clothes, napkins, stones, leather and much more. In the "children's corner", for both small and large children, you can make your own unique candles with a variety of different colors.

Our hotel has the Norwegian history in focus. The comfort of the rooms are a top modern. Colors, decors, lamps and curtains create an unforgettable journey through time.  Sleep in houses with grass roofs and wake up with the birds and the murmur of the stream. Byrkjedalstunet hotel has 31 rooms which are divided into single, double, superior, family rooms and family suite. We can accommodate a total of 64 guests. All the rooms have their own character. All rooms are well equipped with tiled bathrooms and down comforters in our beds.

In 1991, we were done with the renovation of our Café. We serve delicious meals prepared according to Norwegian, local tradition. Our specialties are Anna 's meatballs, were the meat comes from wild Hereford cattle from our own breed. Every day, we also have red trout on the menu, as well as Rømmegrøt (sour cream porridge), the other dishes vary from day to day.

Every Friday and Sunday (daily during the peak season) we bake bread and various pastries in our bakery. Our guests have the possibility to buy the fresh bread and pastries in the bakery or cafe.

In the meantime, we have become a major visitor attraction. In the summer of 2000 we achieved over 93,000 visitors, now there are more than 150,000 visitors a year, who take a break at Byrkjedalstunet. To taste the food, visit the shop and spend a night or two at our hotel. Our energetic two goats Sun and Moon and our two little pigs Carsten and Petra looking forward to the many visitors.

Our 950 m² large mountain venue (Gloppehallen) will amaze you. In the middle of the mountain, we offer our guests a place for special occasions. Whether it is a wedding, round birthday, fairs, exhibitions or conferences. Here, we can fit up to 550 people.

Byrkjedalstunet, are surrounded by the charming landscape of Rogaland, and offers a unique starting point for beautiful nature experiences.

Gloppedalsura - Northern Europe's largest heap of ruins: 2 minutes drive

Månafossen – A waterfall with 90 meters of free fall: 15 minutes drive, 20 min hiking.

Kjerag - 1.5 hour drive, 3 hour hikinng.

Preikestolen - 1.5 hour drive, 2 hours hiking.

Don’t forget to stop by, if you are in the vicinity. Byrkjedalstunet is always worth a visit.  We are looking forward to seeing you here!
