If you are a member of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) or of an affiliated association in another country, you can borrow a DNT cabin key against a deposit of NOK 100, which is refunded upon return. The key gives you access to the self-service and the no-service cabins. As a member you also get a discount on lodgings at all cabins and on served meals at the staffed lodges, as well as other advantages. The membership is valid one calendar year, from the 1st of January to the 31st of December.
DNT has three different cabins:
Anyone can use DNT's cabins, and everyone who comes to a cabin will have a place to sleep. Booking is not needed, but you should verify in advance that the cabin is open if you are going to a staffed logde. Accommodation costs from NOK 100-200 for a self-serviced/no-service cabin to NOK 700 for a staffed lodge with all the meals (members' price). If you stay in a dormitory the price might be lower. Membership in DNT also gives you a discount.
At the staffed logdes you can ask for a special price if you are staying a few days. The price will cover accommodation and meals, and you can go on day trips with a light back-pack and not worry about where to sleep.
