Eighteen carefully selected roads in Norway have been designated Norwegian Scenic Routes. Norwegian Scenic Routes are roads that take you through the most beautiful scenery Norway has to offer. Half of the routes are in Fjord Norway.
They will be further developed and improved until 2023 to become high-quality national tourist attractions. Picnic areas with exciting architecture have been built along the routes to enable road users to enjoy the views, experience the weather, take photos, have a bite to eat and explore the unique Norwegian scenery.
Scenic Routes in Fjord Norway
- Aurlandsfjellet - between Aurlandsvangen and Lærdalsøyri. Known as the "Snow Road" between the fjords.
- Gaularfjellet - between Balestrand and Moskog, and from Eldalsosen to Sande. Follow the road from the mighty Sognefjord - the world’s longest and Norway’s deepest fjord.
- Geiranger-Trollstigen - between Langvatnet and Sogge bridge. A road through west Norwegian nature at its most powerful, with a dizzying view of sheer mountainsides, deep fjords and fertile valleys.
- Hardanger - Granvin-Steinsdalsfossen, Norheimsund-Tørvikbygd, Jondal-Utne and Kinsarvik-Odda-Låtefoss. For many the very essence of the national romantic nature of the west country.
- Hardangervidda - between Haugastøl and Eidfjord. Across the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe.
- Jæren - between Ogna and Bore. The long sandy beaches towards journey's end can offer the motorist some relaxation.
- Old Strynefjell - between Grotli and Videsæter. A 100 years old piece of cultural heritage.
- Ryfylke - between Oanes and Hordali. A varied, beautiful and fertile landscape.
- Sognefjellet - between Lom and Gaupne. The highest mountain road in Northern Europe winds its way through the Jotunheimen mountains.
- The Atlantic Road - between Kårvåg and Bud. With its seven bridges, acclaimed as the construction of the twentieth century.

Map series
In collaboration with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Nordeca has launched a series of maps which encompass all the amazing sights and experiences along the Norwegian Scenic Routes in Norway. The map series is composed of 18 titles involving the routes.
The maps describe spectacular viewpoints, nature scenery, attractions, accommodations, dining and points of interest along the Scenic Routes. Several of the descriptions with accompanying illustrations have been placed directly in the map in order to give the user a good visual presentation of the route. The maps are available in three languages: Norwegian, English and German.
The maps can be found in tourist information offices, book shops, at petrol stations and local stops along the route, or online at
kartbutikken.no.
