You are here Things to do Hiking
Norwegian nature is world famous for its majestic mountains and beautiful fjords. However, hikes in the Norwegian mountains are a serious matter, and can be challenging for even the fittest among us. Therefore, it is important to be well prepared. Always bring the right equipment, and enough food and drinks, and check the weather forecast before you set out on a hike. Happy hiking! The Fjord Norway region offers incredible varied scenery. Hike along the many fjords, in the national parks, on the glaciers with a guide or climb the mountains by the coast.
The two most popular hikes are without a doubt Trolltunga (The Troll's Tongue) and Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock) There are many other great hikes, though! Check out Fjord Norway’s top 5 hikes.
Romsdalseggen is one of Norway’s most beautiful, iconic hikes, offering spectacular views of the Romsdalsfjellene mountains. The hike to Mt. Keipen starts in charming Balestrand and offers a spectacular view over the Sognefjord. Close by, the Aurlandsdalen valley is wild and beautiful and rich in culture and history. Whether you want to do hikes that can be done in a day or longer hikes where you stay overnight in a trekking association cabin, this is a great area.
Hiking is even possible in urban areas. Seven mountains surround Bergen, each offering a variety of trails to suit varying skill levels. The summits of Ulriken and Fløyen can be reached by cable car and funicular respectively, opening up opportunities for smaller hikes for the less experienced. At Voss you can take the Voss Gondola up to the top of Hangurstoppen (820 masl). Here, you will find a great area for hiking and other activities.
