Kvinnherad Church, also known as the Kvinnherad Cathedral, is by many regarded as one of the most beautiful medieval churches in Norway. The stone church, which was built around the year 1250, and has been one of four main churches in Hordaland. This shows that Rosendal has been a vital hub for Christianity in the region. The stone altar has cavities with room for relics, one of several Catholic memories. From the year 1678 - 1910, the church was owned by Baroniet Rosendal, who was responsible for renovation and decoration during this period. The ceiling is covered with stars and other celestial items to give the church a sense of sitting under the sky of God.
Around the year 1670, the tomb of the Rosenkrantz family was built, and it is still intact with a beautiful sarcophagus. The altarpiece was painted by Hans Sager in 1705 on behalf of Baron Aksel Rosenkrantz and shows the Lord's communion, the Crucifixion, and the Revival. The church is open during high season for individuals or for groups by appointment.
