Perhaps while exploring historic Bergen, your eyes have been drawn to shop windows filled with enchanting, colorful Oleana sweaters. We have good news for you!
Oleana invites you to an eventful journey through our factory, following the production process from yarn to finished product. You will learn more about the craft and become better acquainted with our colorful products.
Oleana is proud to say all our products are knitted and sewn in Norway. Oleana’s own designer, Solveig Hisdal, takes care to respect and continue the ideals and richness in our cultural heritage but also takes pride in creating textiles with a modern expression.
The factory is located in historic buildings by the fjord in Ytre Arna, birth place of the West Coast textile industry in 1846. Each day we are aware of the historical context of the textile industry we work in, the biggest and oldest industry in the world. Oleana is a part of it.
Our doors are open so that people can walk around and see the products being made. May be you would like to shop in our factory store where we carry the whole Oleana collection, or relax and have a cup of coffee, lunch and fresh bakery in the café "Fargeriet" whilst you rest your eyes at the fjord just outside the big windows.
Oleana is certified as and Économusée. This means that we are a member of an international network of enterprises producing traditional and contemporary products with age-old techniques that are open to the public.
The Économusée concept is developed in Quebec and with members in Canada and several Northern European countries, the Économusée network is made up of artisan companies that are interested in conserving and passing on traditional skills to future generations.
ÉCONOMUSÉE experience is...
- Meeting artisans in their work environment
- Learning in an enriching environment
- Discovering the beauty & authenticity of products made and sold on site
- Take care of culture and traditions
- Combining culture, economy and tourism.
Our factory is always open for everybody who wants to come and see. Guided tours for groups by appointment. 50 Nok each person
