Suldalslågen river in the inner part of Ryfylke is the stretch of river from Suldalsvatnet lake (68 meters above sea level) to Sand. On this 22 kilometre-long stretch the river runs, silent and powerful, through a varied natural and cultural landscape, only interrupted by the rapids of the Juvet gorge and Sandfossen waterfall. At the salmon studio at Sandsfossen, salmon and trout can be studied at close quarters as they make their way up the salmon ladder.
Last century the "salmon lords" from England brought fame to Suldalslågen as an angling river. They were granted exclusive fishing rights and made their mark on the area with their "salmon castles" and large households. Today, the River Owners' Association works is active in maintaining the local stocks of wild salmon by among other things, adding lime to the river and hatching and stocking the river with salmon fry.
Exciting activities offered on the Suldalslågen river include salmon safaris and river expeditions.
