The idyllic island of Hjertøya is a great recreational area where you can fish, go on a picnic, walk along guided paths or swim in the sea. At the Fisheries Museum you can get an insight into local coastal culture. The museum is made as a small fishing village with houses, fishermen’s shacks, cod-liver oil factory, engineering workshop and a large collection of boats. It portrays local coastal culture, working life and living conditions from around 1850. Free exhibition of the multi artist Kurt Schwitters and “Die große Merz” pillar on the Hjertøy square.
