Reviled, misunderstood, hailed as a work of genius and the subject of boundless cult devotion. Shown in a digital 4K version.
A Clockwork Orange, based on Anthony Burgess' novel of the same name from 1962, has been controversial since it was released and still has the power to provoke. It tells the story of the ultra-violent young thug Alex and his ruthless gang. The film presents us with an ethical dilemma: humanity's free choice between good and evil actions. The authorities, backed by science, introduce a new type of treatment for criminals called the Ludovico Technique. The method means that the subject feels intense pain every time they attempt to carry out violent acts.
