25 Years of Bergen Youth Chamber Orchestra – 25 Years of Tone Martinsen Birkeland
In autumn 2001, Bergen Youth Chamber Orchestra (BUKO) was founded by Tone Martinsen Birkeland. The aim was to create a place where young musicians in Bergen could play together in a small chamber orchestra and have the opportunity to grow and develop – both individually and through collaboration with other musicians.
Twenty-five years later, BUKO stands as a remarkable success story, with countless concerts, exciting international tours and a strong musical community. Over the years, the orchestra has provided an important platform for a great number of musicians who have gone on to pursue professional careers in music.
The anniversary year is celebrated with a concert honouring Tone Birkeland and 25 years as the orchestra’s driving force. The programme features musical highlights from a varied chamber orchestra career, with soloists and works that have accompanied BUKO throughout the years, alongside some more recent favourites.
