On Friday 25 September we got something very special up with Fløibanen. The work Gamma Sud (c. 1972) by the French artist Jean Dewasne was transported safely to Fløyen, carefully packed and accompanied the whole way. Now even more Bergen residents and visitors can encounter the art from Kode's collection at us in Fløirestauranten.
Our mission is to make art relevant and accessible to everyone. By bringing art out into new spaces, we help reach more people and offer art experiences in unexpected places, says Kode's director Petter Snare.
Colourful, sharply defined lines, angles, curves and semicircles meet in a dense, architectural composition. The glossy, almost industrially appearing lacquered surface corresponds to the painting's careful and systematic construction.
Gamma Sud is a smaller version of the monumental wall paintings Dewasne created for museums, businesses and public buildings in the 1960s and 1970s, among others for the newspaper editorial office Politiken in Copenhagen and the underground railway in Hannover.
