Chamber Music Festival 2026: Concert No. 13 – Evening Concert
Vivaldi in Valdres
Stavanger Cathedral
This evening concert, titled Vivaldi in Valdres, presents Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons in a new musical context where Baroque music meets Norwegian folk traditions and the Hardanger fiddle.
Vivaldi spent much of his working life at the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice, composing an extensive body of music for his students. Among these works, The Four Seasons stands out as one of his most celebrated, and an early example of programme music in which nature and the seasons are translated into sound.
In this performance, Vivaldi’s concertos are interwoven with traditional Norwegian melodies from Valdres, alongside Baroque works by composers such as Marin Marais and Pietro Locatelli. The result is a programme where different traditions interact and illuminate one another.
The performance features Ragnhild Hemsing on Hardanger fiddle and the ensemble Barokkanerne.
