Chamber Music Festival 2026: Concert No. 4 – Late-Night Concert

Fanny and Alexander
Wednesday 5 August at 9.30 pm | Stavanger Cathedral

This late-night concert brings together three works that explore mood, narrative, and inner drama in different ways. Under the title Fanny and Alexander, music by Karol Szymanowski, Benjamin Britten, and Arthur Foote is presented in a programme shaped by contrasts between intimacy and expressive intensity.

The concert opens with Szymanowski’s Myths, Op. 30, performed by Yura Lee and Danae Dörken, a work that combines virtuosic writing with a distinctive, atmospheric sound world. This is followed by Britten’s Cello Suite No. 3, Op. 87, performed by *Andreas Brantelid, a highly personal work that explores the full expressive range of the cello.

The concert concludes with the Intermezzo from Arthur Foote’s Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 38, performed by Christian Ihle Hadland, David Coucheron, Alexandra Conunova, Adrien La Marca, and Olga Chwaszczewska. The piece brings the programme to a close with a lyrical and warmly coloured chamber music sound.

In the setting of Stavanger Cathedral, this late-night concert offers a focused and atmospheric end to the festival day.
