Chamber Music Festival 2026: Concert No. 6 – Evening Concert

War’s Fortune
Stavanger Cathedral

This evening concert, titled War’s Fortune, brings together two major works from the late Classical and late Romantic repertoire, both marked by emotional depth and structural ambition.

The programme opens with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s String Quintet in G minor, K. 516, performed by David Coucheron, Michael Germer, Sào Soulez Larivière, Yura Lee, and Gabriel Schwabe. One of Mozart’s most introspective chamber works, the quintet combines intensity with formal clarity and a dark expressive tone.

The concert concludes with Edward Elgar’s Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 84, performed by Danae Dörken, David Coucheron, Adrien La Marca, Michael Germer, and Olga Chwaszczewska. Written after the First World War, the work carries a reflective and often unsettled character, shifting between lyrical passages and dramatic tension.

Together, the two quintets create a programme centred on contrast, introspection, and expansive chamber writing across two musical eras.
