Chamber Music Festival 2026: Concert No. 8 – Lunchtime Concert

Summer and Sunshine in Vienna
Skur 2

This lunchtime concert, titled Summer and Sunshine in Vienna, presents music from two sides of the Viennese tradition: Mozart’s classical elegance and Korngold’s late-Romantic richness.

The concert opens with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Trio in E-flat major, K. 498 “Kegelstatt”, scored for clarinet, viola, and piano. The work unfolds in a conversational style, with the three instruments exchanging lyrical lines, dance-like gestures, and an intimate overall character.

This is followed by Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s String Sextet, Op. 10, a large-scale work written in Vienna in 1916. Its musical language moves between lush, nostalgic passages and more animated sections, with a slow movement at the emotional centre of the piece.

Together, the programme offers a meeting between Classical clarity and late-Romantic opulence, both rooted in the Viennese tradition.
