At a previous Cimota concert, a reviewer from Jazznytt wondered why pianist Håvard Wiik is not more famous, concluding that quality and fame do not always go hand in hand.
The ensemble continues the legacy of Atomic, in which Wiik, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Hans Hulbækmo were members. For 20 years, Atomic was renowned for blending high-energy free jazz with elements of contemporary music and classic jazz before bringing its journey to a close in 2022. The group was widely respected and beloved, and its farewell concerts were covered as the significant and somewhat poignant cultural event they were.
From those ashes emerged Cimota, joined by the exceptional horn players Eivind Lønning (trumpet) and Espen Reinertsen (saxophones). Together, they also form the duo Streifenjunko, which has spent years exploring and expanding the possibilities of this intimate format.
In Cimota, two distinct strengths come together in the search for new solutions and new music. Audiences can expect redefined boundaries and an expanded musical perspective.
Nasjonal jazzscene commissioned new music from Cimota in collaboration with Bergen Jazzforum and Stavanger Jazzforum. The Stavanger audience will be the first to experience the commissioned work live.
