Join Us for a Guided Tour in East Stavanger!
East Stavanger has deeper roots than many realise. It was once Stavanger’s working-class district, where low social status, social challenges, and the heat from all the canneries were, believe it or not, the area’s defining features. Today, old houses with outhouses are being replaced by modern apartments, and new restaurants and pubs are springing up in the neighbourhood where Ajax’s Frøken Sørensen once lived in her modest flat.
When the canning industry disappeared, factory premises stood empty until new businesses moved in – and people relocated to the suburbs. Today, East Stavanger is once again a vibrant area, where old walls meet modern city life. From industry and everyday work to art, cafés, and some of the city’s most popular residential areas.
